I kind of want to give the hipster answer and say Spartan: Total Warrior though, just because I know no one else will say it.

It supported multiple monitors, had awesome performance for that time, and was way ahead for its time (1991) in many aspects.

That's actually true by the way. I checked my stats and it turns out I've averaged over a thousand hands a year since I got it four years ago.

Marathon was a game I couldn't survive without. It was the best shooter out at the time, with a deep storyline and a map editor which the community and I used to great effect.

As a kid this fostered a lifelong love of Adventure games. I would play for hours pretending I was the captain.
