Huh... that's a quick level of support for a card that isn't released on the platform;  the upcoming Pro refresh seems a likely place to see a GTX Titan as a BTO.

On the subject of Titan, the latest 10.8.4 beta now includes Titan drivers.
I'm itching for one of these GPUs but I want to see what Apple's going to do with the MacPro line... I've got the five-year itch on mine.

That's what I'm thinking too. According to people experimenting with Titans in current Mac Pros over at MacRumors, the Titan exceeds maximum power requirements in current Mac Pros, so it's not altogether "safe" to run them. If that's the case, then Apple adding support for them only makes sense if they're either going to be an option in the new Mac Pros, or a third party card maker is planning to offer a Mac Edition Titan for the new Mac Pros after launch and is working with Apple on drivers.

Or maybe working on a Thunderbolt Titan external.

Personally I think a $1000 consumer Mac GPU isn't going to be a very popular option, especially when the GTX 680 is already available. A GK110 based Quadro would be interesting though and even though the market would be small, professionals who need it really do need it and wouldn't be as price sensitive so I could see it being a more viable product. A GK110 Quadro has yet to be released although it has been rumoured.

I think the likelihood of the Quadro K6000 coming along and being GK110-based is probably pretty high.

Now that I think about it, perhaps it's extremely similar in design to the Titan, they're preparing drivers for it, and it was easy to just add in the Titan as well.

:D

Can't wait to stick this in my friend's Mac Pro this weekend and see how badly it trounces his old card.

Sold out via EVGA still, available for the same price from Amazon as of this writing (more from third party sellers, though).

Crap. I knew I should have bought more and inflated the price on eBay.

Mac Edition = Price Hike. Nothing wrong with all the other cards out there working in Mac Pros.
All what other cards? You mean stock GTX cards without ROM flashing...?

They won't show the bootup screen, but they should work otherwise. There are a couple manufacturors, I think EVGA is one, that actually make EFI roms for certain models of cards, and those would be better than any Mac Edition price-grab.

But EVGA's Mac Edition "price-grab" card is the card [that] this thread is about.

And it's totally moot in the face of UEFI/"fastboot" cards.

And Macs use EFI, Wintel mobos use UEFI. Have you successfully popped one of those cards into your Mac, seen the Apple logo at boot and use it as is (with the updated BIOS) otherwise?

UEFI was formerly known as EFI...

I've never had a Mac tower to do that.

ANYWAY... NEWEGG appears to have these in stock as of this writing. 1 to 3 months from Amazon! :P They reference the Barefeets review, too.

At the bottom of the Barefeets review Rob notes something concerning a review on Newegg from an end user; "...one buyer posted on NewEgg.com that the GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition is not compatible with After Effects CS6. That's incorrect. As with any new CUDA GPU, you must add it to the whitelist of "ray-traced_enabled_cards" using the "sudo nano" Terminal command."

N0ob Qs;

This would be my first NVIDIA card, are there any hoops I'm going to have to jump through in using this card?

What is this Whitelist thing about?

TIA

When I installed it on my friend's Early 2009 Mac Pro, there were no hoops to jump through, no software to install, or anything like that. Just installed it, plugged the power cables in, started up the Mac Pro, done.

I would make sure you're updated to 10.8.3 or later though.
