I'd rather eat a shoe than reboot just to play games with subpar hardware, but everybody's different I guess.

IF you got more space and time then sense go for it. For the rest of us, we'll just buy an xbox.

#451672 Virtual Programming's Upcoming Projects

I bought Kult: Heretic Kingdoms from those crooks once (from their own god damn store!) and it activated one time, never was able to activate it again. I don't think they even responded to support requests when I tried to get it working again.

I had heard you could contact Aspyr and they would get you an App Store copy of RAGE if you had a disk copy. I have it on disk but never bothered to contact them since I also have it for 360 (which was updated for XOne Backward Compatibility )

The 64-bit transition particularly hurts developers and publishers who have old games they were still selling. (Also the gamers who own them, of course.) So it's a particular blow to publishers with a deep catalog like Aspyr or Feral. Most of those old games don't sell a lot any more, but over time the long tail can really add up. Apple is cutting off that tail.

The 64-bit address space for ASLR is mind boggling larger. Requiring 64-bit binaries is for security as much as Apple wanting to cast off legacy support. Google is pushing 64-bit apps hard in the android space as well. If microsoft thought they could get away with pushing 64-bit apps they would but windows developers are lazy af and lean on their 30 year old code bases too much.

#451819 16" Macbook Pro

Posted by macdude22 on 15 November 2019 - 07:30 AM in Mac Hardware

4096 x 2304 is true  16:9 4k. 6016 x 3384 is the 6K resolution of the Pro display.

I expect the lack of true 4k on the built in display is for power saving. At 15 - 16 inches the PPI is already very high. They look SHARP to the human eye. Another thousand pixels is another thousand pixels to power for what may be considered a marginal visual improvement.

Our MacBook and iPhone users go all day without a charge. Our Dell and Android users are constantly fluttering about trying to find AC. I'll err on Apple's power management here.

I will concede that in 2019, on a portable computer with the moniker "Pro" a 4K display should at least be an option. Perhaps with the understanding it may have a tangible effect on battery life. There was a time Apple offered display options on their portable devices. I purchased my 2012 MBP (non retina) with the uncommon but delightful 1680-by-1050 matte display (I believe this was a hundred dollar upgrade maybe?).

13/16 has a nice symmetry to it.

You either have to get a copy of Snow Leopard Server somehow, or hack the OS to convince the VM that that you are running Snow Leopard Server.

Apple still sells Snow Kitty Server (well they still did in April when I ordered some copies). You have to call and ask for MC588Z, it's 19.99. The normal sales folk should be able to get it but if you DM I can give you the direct line for someone in sales who specializes in the old stuff.

I will say that virtualizing 10.6 doesn't end up as great as you might hope. A lot of games of that era expected video support that fusion doesn't handle well. It's possible parallels is better in this regard.

lol the way blizzard has been acting who gives a frak what they release. They don't deserve a dime and are doing Mac folks a favor. Baring their terrible political positions they haven't released anything reasonably fun in years except WoW Classic and customers nearly needed a blood sacrifice to get them to do that.

#452430 OK, here goes: GeForce Now....?

In my experience it didn't matter which streaming quality I set because after about 5 minutes it settles into 90s jpg mode with constant "poor connection".

I will say I have had a similar experience where Star Control Origins never had any issues but Fallout 76 was constant "poor connection".

#452434 OK, here goes: GeForce Now....?

Guess I won't play new games in 10 years. Which is fine. I have a lifetime of backlog.

#452415 OK, here goes: GeForce Now....?

Maybe if I was closer to a data center it would be better. The network test always passes (marginally, average 40ms latency) but any time I have tried to use it the stream drops frames and gets pixelated while giving a big ol network issue icon in the upper right corner. I'm sure the closest data center is in Chicago and my ISP routes west before it routes back east to Chicago. I have some hope that xCloud might work better with a huge MS datacenter in Des Moines.

At least it's free to use. Just buy an Xbox or a Switch (or both)
