Microsoft Buys ZeniMax (Bethesda)

21 September 2020 - 10:34 AM

Microsoft buys Bethesda for 7.5 Billion.

While I think the end result is the same regarding non-existent Mac versions, this still has some tantalizingly interesting possible effects, including:

- Obsidian and Fallout are now under one roof. Fallout: New Vegas 2?
- Microsoft doesn't hate John Carmack.

Myst VR announced

16 September 2020 - 01:52 PM

I'm probably the only one around here who cares about yet another incarnation of Myst, but anyway:

The reimagined music and narration is just perfect, IMO.

That brings up an interesting note: this is not a 1:1 remake in VR. You can see some new designs in the screenshots.

I am totally on board with this--some of the art design isn't as quite grounded in reality as in the later games, and so much of the Myst universe was only established in the later games and books. I can see how this might piss off some purists, though.

My only qualm is this better not be a Quest exclusive. I plan on getting an Index when Firmament releases and I refuse to buy anything Facebook-owned. I worry because this is tied into other Oculus announcements today, and it's clear Facebook gave them a boatload of money to make this.

(Oh, and VR is optional...there will be a flat version, too.)

Path of Exile coming Sept 11 for iOS and Mac

19 August 2020 - 11:47 AM

Apparently I missed this. It was originally announced last year, and now has a release date:

Never tried this game out, but I've always preferred the darker aesthetic to Diablo III.

Valve drops Mac Steam VR support

01 May 2020 - 09:02 AM

In the latest edition of I totally forgot this was a thing, Valve drops Mac support for Steam VR. Old beta frameworks will continue to work, for now:

I like how they spelled macOS OSX. Seems fitting for such a post.

Folding@Home Coronavirus

15 March 2020 - 12:05 AM

Folding@Home lets you donate your unused GPU and CPU resources for disease research. I’ve just started to use it after they added coronavirus projects. You can create teams to keep track of how many cycles you’ve donated collectively; perhaps if others are interested we could create an IMG team.
