Does anyone know of a reputable download link? I've misplaced my disk, and I have an old 2006 iMac (one of the first intel macs) that I want to re-install OS X on.

You can still buy legit Snow Leopard disks, amongst others from Apple.

That would work I suppose.

I ended up finding a .dmg file for Snow Leopard, but to my amazement there doesn't really seem to be a way to make a bootable USB from it anywhere. Disk Utility doesn't work (gives some weird error, which google seems to confirm happening with new macOS installs).

createinstallmedia command in terminal doesn't work either since it only works for Mavericks and up. A few different forums/reddit posts had links to other programs like Pacifist that would possibly work, but people further down in the thread confirmed them to not work. The next step would probably be creating a Linux VM and trying from there, but thankfully I finally found the disc.

It is possible. I did it a year ago from a DMG, and it worked fine. Can't remember how though.

That would actually probably work. Now if only I had some blank DVDs laying around.

You'll need a Dual Layer DVD, that's the hard part.

To be honest I forgot that creating a DVD was even something that exists. Been at least 5 years since I've had to do that.
