Well... it's good to know that that it's handling of games and online differs from the Xbone. But still you have online play, how exactly they will deal with indie games, and the new PSeye camera device. Yeah sure, it's 100 dollars cheaper then the Xbox One, but if I don't have to use the camera then that's better. Still though 400 dollars is quite a bit for me.  Plus how well will it work in terms of performance and the failure rate.

Still want to try it out.

It's actually pretty much exactly the same price the PS2 launched at, taking inflation into account.

Because they can, it's an additional revenue stream and the only real competition is Live and they are already doing it.

They must have figured that with the goodwill for enabling used games etc which MS doesn't do they can introduce this without any substantial backslash.

I don't subscribe to PSN+ but it seems like a great value given you can normally get the year at a discount via cards somewhere (£25 instead of £50 I think) and the games you get for free over one year easily make it worth it even if you only play one or two.

I'm not a fan aesthetically, but I don't think it's 1980s Zenith product bad like the XBone's design. That said, pay to play online... gah.

Even if you basically get a free online game with it that was the same reaction I had with PS plus. I didn't use PS plus to be honest so for me it's a downside since you can't really play those free PS3 games at launch.

I would subscribe to PS+ regardless of whether or not it is mandatory. It's worth it.

Well, at least it turns out the hard drive is still upgradeable without voiding your warranty, unlike the XBone. That gives it another performance leg up. Sticking a SSD in the PS3 was kind of a waste since it only had SATA-I, but since the PS4 will almost certainly have SATA-III, that opens up a whole new avenue of performance if you have the cash. Change out the 5400 rpm HDD with a Crucial M500 SSD and load games instantly? Yes please.

Adding an SSD to my SATA1 MBP from 2006 really boosted it a lot - I'd be surprised if you couldn't see a difference on the PS3?

You can get whole consoles for that price (well, cheap ones). The $60–70 RRP for PS3/Xbox 360 games already was more than steep but that's really getting out of hand.

Where is this coming from, unconfirmed pre-order pricing? I don't expect it to increase.

Yes, pre-order prices. Most shops I checked so far are very consistent with that price point, with some exceptions that still are in the $80 range. You make a good point that there doesn't seem to be an official word on the prices, though.

Those prices reflect inclusion of a year of PS Plus.

Example: the Killzone Shadowfall bundle (PS4 + Killzone + 1 year of PS Plus) is $500, but a PS4 and Killzone by itself are $400 + the usual $60. Same with the Battlefield 4 bundle. The Watch Dogs bundle does not appear to include PS Plus, and is $460. PS4 games are still $60.

I'm planning on picked a PS4 up this Friday. Is the traditional IMG PS crew jumping ship to PS4 (teflon? Haven't seen him in awhile)

I'll be getting one; already nabbed a DualShock 4 on Halloween to play with and can report it works quite nicely on PC with no drivers.
