It's a beautiful game, when it works, Bunny. One might say it's a game I hate to love, alas. ;)

Pop up with this and an "Okay" button to make it go away;

Host_AuthFail

Fail, fail, fail... I redeemed the code to activate it via eso.com, fine, downloaded, installed... failure to launch... the only thing in Console;

7/23/15 06:47:05.866 Console[1451]: Failed to connect (_consoleX) outlet from (NSApplication) to (ConsoleX): missing setter or instance variable

Oddly enough... the beta worked fine when I was testing it... but that was awhile ago and a different OS [version]... :(

Check out the Mac Tech Support section of the offical forums as some others have tried it with El Capitan and there are some suggestions including this one. Like the OS X Engineer for ESO, The Bunny intimates though, there is no support using beta OS X and it can cause issues in itself. But if you want to try it's the best place to start.

Plus you get to see some really detailed and instructive posts by The Bunny (Chris Dillman) on the subject and everything ESO for the Mac. A rare thing indeed in the industry as he continues to do a sterling job on ESO for Mac players.

Thanks.

UmarOMC1, Bug reports have been filed with the patcher team  and the middleware vendor
and hopefully there will be fixes by the time 10.10 actually ships.

I came back to ESO about a month and a half ago, and I've seen very few crashes since then. Conventional wisdom would dictate that an MMO goes to seed after going F2P, but the ESO Mac client has actually improved significantly, making the game a joy to play these days.

But isnt ESO "not" F2P? I mean, you have to plunk down a big chunk of change to get the game, regardless if there is a subscription afterwards or not... right?

Oh, yeah, to be precise, I guess it's Buy2Play, like GW2. Anyway, it's sub-free now, and many peeps were scared that this would mean a decline in quality, bug fixes, etc. While that may be true to an extent, it mostly affects areas of the game that have been buggy since the days when players still had to pay a sub (PvP was beset by drops in frame rate, crashes, etc. since launch, I think). But the Mac-related frustrations that drove me to canceling my sub have, so far, gone away.

Ah, I see. Yeah... sub-free is a decline, but I don't think its a death knoll as much as pure F2P with microtransactions. Seems whenever anything goes F2P, its basically a nailed shut coffin ;)

Oh so Cyrodiil is playable on Mac now?

That was the main game breaker for me. I found Cyrodiil lots of fun apart from that.

Too bad the REAL Elder Scrolls games will never be Mac native.  The guys at Bethesda have some kind of irrational hatred of the Mac platform.

Heh.  And yet I still continue to sink countless hours into their bug-ridden games (using Wine, of course.)  I must love the abuse.

For me, that was the beauty of Morrowind. I never did the main quest beyond a certain point although I did do faction quest lines. Instead, I installed some cool housing mod, armor mannequins in it, my own slave girl Jessica to greet me when I came home and keep my armor shining while away and proceeded to pillage the entire world of Morrowind including the Vivec Treasury of all that lovely glass and other armor and weapons. I think I wore the glass armor and put the rest of the stuff on display at my Balmora Residence. Morrowind Abodes was the name of the houses mod for anybody interested.

Beyond that, I then got into all kinds of cool content mods like one with a castle full of vampires to take on, a big ship in the sky to take over, all kinds of crazy stuff. I spent a lot of hours doing everything but the story of that game. I have no idea to this day how it all turns out. I want to go back and play that again along with the two expansions I blew off at the time.

I pre-modded Oblivion so much, that when I went to actually play the game, I had no clue what was going on or what I was doing, as there were tons of waypoints and 'do this now!' going on. And none of it seemed connected. Plus I had bought the game when it came with a glob of DLC, which were even more things plunked down at the start which told me to go there, and had no basis on the main story (if there was even a main story). So I ended up tooling around in the game, then gave up. Unsure what the point was, other than a sandbox RPG that hit a roof pretty quickly.

Then you're going to want to keep an eye on OpenMW.  It's a modern, open sourced engine for the original Morrowind data files that's ultimately going to incorporate many of the features of the best mods and hacks from the original game.  They're actually almost ready for a 1.0 release, if you can believe it.  It seems projects like these are almost never finished, but this one looks like it will make it.  The current release is already fully playable from beginning to end.  I'm looking forward to the post-1.0 releases when they start incorporating things like distant terrain, fancy shaders, and more complex scripting (real NPC scheduling!).  I might finally finish Morrowind someday.
