The actual meaning of the sentence you are replying to is this: "It's hard to do better than DX's storyline", or perhaps "It's hard to find a game with a better storyline than DX."  Not "It's difficult to play through DX as a game."  Gotta love ambiguity in English.  :)

No, I meant it the other way.

heck yes! that gun was useless until you got the lightening, and then only became a thing of true beauty with the sun beam thing.
I beg to differ - The red version did quite some damage, with only minor scatter. I like it.

I'm almost at the end now. Picked it up for 6$ (I believe) on the MAS, and I'm really enjoying it. Probably the best shooter I've played, since Red Faction and Half-Life 2. A relief to have this good shooting action, when you come straight from Duke Nukem Forever.. As someone else also mentioned, I think this is the game with the best setup of guns - They all feel worthwhile (Except the ice gun), and the physics feels just right when you shoot with them (I'm looking at you DNF!).

Definitely worth a recommendation for me. I also loved the environments, the puzzles, and the story. Pretty linear, but I don't feel it took much away from the game, due to the story.

A story that keeps you interested makes up for any mis-steps with level design, old graphics etc. I finished replaying the game (got the MAS one so I didn't need my CD in the drive) and it will still very enjoyable.

I almost re-bought on the App Store, but the App Store isn’t multiplayer compatible with other versions AFAIK, and I really do like multiplayer: it’s a very different and fun twist on deathmatching. However, at this point there’s probably not much going on online, so I’d only be playing it by setting it up with a friend. So as soon as I have more than one App Store Mac it might be worth it!

I love the weapons in this game for sure. They’re all just plain fun. The acid gun especially. And the sun ray... against multiplayer noobs who have never seen it and don’t know how you obtained it :) It is a bit startling the first time.

I even got Prey for iPhone. Well... just say, not the same experience :) Nor even the same story.

I find I have less patience for linear “quest” shooters (though I want to get over it and finish Half Life 2 and Bioshock). But Prey at least gives you a lot of variety and eye candy along the way! Most enemies (at default difficulty) aren’t that tough, but I was never bored just because there was always something new and different going on, visually or action/puzzle-wise.

I’m disappointed to hear that Prey 2 does not follow in the footsteps of Prey 1 (no wall walking, no ghost walking). Prey 1’s unusual mechanics were underused, and could have used a deeper sequel.

Man that game was awesome. Final boss fight too easy though, didn't even loose any health I believe.. The path up to the boss was another matter though.. :P

Really liked the setting!

Next up, Doom 3 or Newervinter Nights 2! Although, I will really look forward to Prey 2, although, as mentioned above, it looks totally different..

Just playing through Prey (PC/ Steam) the first time. While it´s much too linear for my taste the setting and eye candy is great.
I am not so convinced with mediocre the shooting mechanics but the no-death spirit regeneration helps to easy a lot of that frustration, esp with those stupid ghost children.

Overall I would recommend it. Much better than Doom 3.

Awesome game.  I'll play it again next.  The way they screwed with gravity made for some interesting puzzles and shooting situations.  Plus the overblown Indian stereotypes were unintentionally hilarious.

Word on the street is that Prey 2 has been canceled, even though it was scheduled for release mid 2012..

Just a rumor from what I read/heard. They did cancel some events for it at GDC...but I'm not going to speculate until there's some official word on it.

Yeah, it is just all over the interwebz currently, and Bethesda have declined to comment on it. We should know next week though, according to the rumors.

Pretty sad if true - It looked quite nice.

They say it's not a good sign when a company says "no comment" that it usually implies the worst.

If true perhaps human head was struggling to flesh it out past the chase and capture stuff to the publisher's satisfaction.  Perhaps they ran into other snags like technical or political stuff.

That really would be a pity. Albeit apparently having not much to with the first Prey, it looked very promising.

It always puzzles me when a game gets cancelled so late in the development cycle. If there were problems with a game that's been in development for years, how can no one put their foot down against it until the final ~3 months? Isn't that the publisher's job? It if was identified earlier presumably the developer has time to correct it. If the developer is unable or unwilling to correct it, wouldn't that be a pattern of behaviour that the publisher would notice early on? Either way, the decision on the games fate shouldn't need to be at the last minute.

I could only assume that they feel that the game is so bad, that 3 more months of developement + Post launch fixes + Support isn't worth the sales of a crappy game.

One thinks if human head studios would close down or end up making another title. Prey didn't take me as a fps that people loyal to call of duty 4 would accept. IMO I thought even though preys levels weren't so great and the final boss being pretty simplistic it still was pretty cool with the games weird weapons and storyline.

Something to remember is the original Prey was actually teased on Duke Nukem 3D's CD along with other games such as Monolith's Blood. It was originally by 3D Realms then cancelled and around 2004 they contracted Human Head to resurrect and make a whole new game based on the concepts of the game they originally where making. The original game wasn't an id tech title or anything and it had totally destructible environments and other things that didn't make it into the game.

How about Mac UT3 :o We’ve seen screenshots to prove it exists, and a little comment that we wouldn’t believe the real reason it wasn’t being released. Which, 5 years late, it still hasn’t been and probably will never be. (Though I’d love to see them dump it cheap on the Mac App Store.)

Interesting bit of history. Could have been pretty cool!
