I've also noticed that there are some bugs in the new UB patch of Jedi Academy.

Although I don't have a Mac Intel, I decided to install the UB patch of JA anyways....my saved games from v.1.01c were recognized, but when loaded up, they played at a much more difficult level.

I'm not sure if the patch changed the JA's game engine or if the patched version doesn't recognize the game level of "old" saved games. Or, maybe it's something else.

Another bug.  Having played so far from the beginning up to the Byss level on Jedi Knight difficulty, light saber defense will not deflect blasts.  It'll stop most of them, but I have not seen a single blaster bolt deflected by my lightsaber.  I stood in front of a single stormtrooper for 30 seconds just letting him shoot at me with my lightsaber on fast style.  Not one bolt deflected.

To add to electricdawn's sentiments above, here is my two cents:

In your February 2006 Newsletter's Tech Talk section, your Tech Team states the following:

We have patches in the works for Sims 2 (+university & nightlife), Doom 3, Star Wars KOTOR, and Jedi Academy that will make them Universal. These patches should be ready to release as free downloads very soon.

According to the latest (August 2006) newsletter, Doom 3 and Sims 2 + expansions have Universal Binary patches available, and it is indicated that a UB patch for Jedi Academy is planned (actually available now).  Nowhere is there any mention of a KOTOR UB patch in this newsletter.  All the other games mentioned in February are now available as UB, while we KOTOR fans feel like we've been strung along.  

In fact, Apple even features a story on your experience with Universal Binaries that mentions KOTOR has been moved over to Xcode and GCC (other games that have been previously mentioned are talked about in this story as well, and they're now UB).  I think this story was posted around October 2005.  It's been quite some time now.

Many of us are anxious for a KOTOR UB patch.  There seems to be some hearsay regarding the Miles audio libraries being ported to UB - is this what is holding up KOTOR?   We'd appreciate some official update to the status of this, please.  Rosetta performance is borderline for me, and I'm sure for others as well, and we'd like to get the most performance out of KOTOR on our Intel Macs.

That explanation is exactly right. (I work for Aspyr, and specifically, did the work to date on Mac KOTOR.) There is easier low-hanging fruit in terms of other games to make universal, so KOTOR is on the back-burner for now. I want it as much as anyone, but it's definitely hit a road-block, so it'll be done when it's done. In the meantime, enjoy Jedi Academy and (soon) Jedi Knight 2. :)

I guess with these new bugs probably not.
How is the support in the modding side? I mean this game is old in gaming terms. Are the modders still going to update their mods to work with new patches?

I'm really annoyed.

I've spent like three weeks trying absolutely everything to get the JA+ mod to work....

The 1.01d patch fixed it and I was really happy until I discovered that it force quit when i disconnected from a server.

When I downloaded the 1.01e patch... it stopped the mod from working... again. :angry:  :angry:

Bought JA and installed it tonight. The PPC version has very good performance at max settings on iMac 17" C2D 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM and X1600. Installed the UB patch and got very poor fram rates. I'm going back to PPC version.

I've had this problem as well on my MBP - I didn't try running it before the patch, but performance is abysmal, dropping to <5 fps when anything is going on (i.e. not staring at the floor).

Try making sure the option Dynamic Glow(or r_dynamicglow is set to 0 in the console) is off.  This was a major system hog for me.  In one map I could stare at a wall and see 45 fps or so with it on and 200+ fps with it off.
This isn't the signature you're looking for.

I can't remember whether I tried that or not. Given that this is a much better machine than the old G4 I previously ran it on, I would say this is definitely some sort of bug.
