edit -- He was actually cruel enough to send us a link to a 50MB QT movie he managed to make while playing. And it does look really, really nice.

They call him dog. He, the Gravity Gun, game play, Havok, graphics, the plot, and the scripting are what makes this game cook. The drive up the river, the drive up the highway, the bridge, the beach, the city are all outstanding environments. HL2 has the absolute most advanced facial features and animations of any game period. In fact they make look Oblivion's characters down right doughy and crude. Although Havok is greatly resented due to it's roll in blocking Mac games, it is absolutely necessary to make the Grav gun give such outstanding effects.
Up to now, raving about HL2 on Mac forums was not all that cool. Now it is.

Doom 3 and Ageia have similar physics engines, so it's not necessary, just sufficient.

Then I should say Havok or equivalent... If the other engines are just as good and are less expensive, I wonder why Havok rules so many games. Why are developers picking Havok over the others?
edit:: Now that I think about it, Doom's physics are not nearly as impressive as HL2.

Far Cry plays great. I'll post some screens this afternoon when I get home from a bunch more games I've tested.

But, Epic is the first major dev team with a lot of influence over the industry to choose Aegia over Havok... Are they starting a tide?

Partly that yes, but I'd also argue partly (or mostly) from the immersive world, realistic textures and lighting, and story/gameplay too. I don't think it's only the Havok thing, but that certainly is part of it.
BTW, what's the name of the cool mod (Gary's Mod?) for HL2 that lets you play with the objects and physics?
Nevermind ... it's here ... http://gmod.garry.tv/

They didn't use it for anything except the 'gravity gun' rip-off in the expansion that Aspyr forgot about. Oh, and the rag-doll corpses and flying barrels. That's the game, though, not the engine.
