I hate them if they make it pop-snizzle-modern with fast paced action.. I want a giant mech that is slow to move, and shoots everything and the kitchen sink!

Don't worry. According to this extensive interview, they are taking the whole simulation aspect and Mechwarrior legacy very serious, despite some "optimisations" for Xbox controllers and unlike some of the more recent console MechAssault spin-offs.

"Gaming on a Mac is like women on the internet." — "Highly common and totally awesome?"

How serious are they taking the lack of funding and lack of publisher?

There is one of those in a town nearby set up for squadrons of F14's and MIGs to duke it out.  I was there once as part of a computer class and got the behind the scenes tour.  Guys were sitting in the bar lounge wearing flight suits and excitedly talking to each other pretending their hands were jets.  heh ... nerds.

You mean like the BattleTech stuff my dad's company helped with way back when?

Edit: here's an example of some newer stuff.
