There are many games which left me stunned in one way or the other, but really satisfying for me was the ending of Bastion, with the montage showing the peaceful lifes of the protagonists after the choices you made in the game's finale, set to this absolute stunner of a soundtrack.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War. Oh the ending, so sad... Must try not to cry, must not cry... Failed. :crying:

Not sure that qualifies as most satisfying ending, but clearly one of the most memorable.

Speedcat returns with November’s special newsletter question. Drum roll please…

Are you more interested in narrative or action, and why?

Looking forward to hear your responses!

Narrative, because at this point in my gaming life, in terms of “action” I’ve experienced it all. But a good narrative can still surprise me.

And there’s so much room to grow in gaming narrative design. Most are not great or even good.

Action, because how old I'm getting, I just cannot remember the entire story for how long it takes to complete it, with all the sidetracks of side missions, and stupid collectibles.

So now I just go for the more mindless action game where I don't need to think about following a story when the game suffers ADHD itself.

I'm more interested in the action. Of course it's really nice when a game's able to offer both, which is why I enjoy Mafia so much. It's just the perfect combination of a very good story and a lot of good action.

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to immerse myself in a great story with interesting characters and involving plot, sometimes I just enjoy to turn off my brain and get lost in the thrill of the action.

Narrative, because action without narration seem pointless to me, while narration doesn't need action.

When I am tired or in need of winding down completely, mindless action games. Otherwise, an awesome narrative.

But if you're that old your memory has gone so short term, there's no way you still have good enough reflexes for action games!

I know Elvis Presley believes "A little less conversation, a little more action" is better, but I respectfully disagree.  Then again, the King was (most likely) not singing about gaming.

A little known fact is that Elvis left the singing business to go into eSports.

The most highly anticipated Mac game of the year has got to be Borderlands 3. A shame that it's not a Feral port though!

Speaking of "game of the year", maybe show the original Borderlands GOTY some love? Pretty please? :teehee:

I haven't played a game released within the last 3 years I think..... That's the life for people with kids and 8 year old computers.

Untitled Goose Game

Caveats:
- I played the Switch version.  But a Mac version exists and I'll try it soon. If its a bad port I'll withdraw my vote :-)
- The only other game released in 2019 that I played already was Borderlands 3. Great game, but the Mac port is buggy and inefficient, Windows version is just buggy. Maybe it'll be my game of the year for 2019 after they've patched it in 2020 :-)

Until now I haven't played any Mac games that were released in 2019. I'm waiting for the Mac App Store release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Life is Strange 2. Those are my two highly anticipated Mac games of 2019.
