How many platforms/devices do you game on? Which ones, and why?

I started gaming on a Vic20 back in prehistory, then C64 and Amiga. Since then, and because I'm basically a masochist, exclusively Mac. We've been a TV-free household for as long as I can remember, so no consoles.

Right now I have a retina iMac for the stuff that benefits from it (mostly WoW, Diablo and Civilisation), but I prefer to game on my MacBook. Infinity Engine games and lower key indy stuff. Why? The chair is comfier, since you ask.

I've been a Mac/Console man since the beginning of time. I did have a brief foray into the Windows world but every minute spent dealing crashing games and out of date drivers is a minute i'm not gaming so I went back to Mac/Console. I generally prefer most games with a controller anyway, outside of strategy games.

95% Mac and 5% Bootcamp Windows. I love Macs as they are awesome at everything except games. I wish more of the types of games I like would have Mac versions as it blows to lose my Mac to reboot to Windows.

Edit: Actually:
95% Mac
4.5%  Bootcamp Windows
0.5% iPhone.

I'm pretty much entirely pc gaming now, sometimes I play infinity blade on my iPad but thats about it. I really like gaming on my iPad pro cause the screen is just so big and beautiful, but there really isn't a reason if I have a gaming PC right there. When I'm traveling it's a perfect choice though.
Maybe it really is all cocks in the end.

For me still really just MacOS. I have tried a little on iOS but only really very casual games as I really prefer a mouse and keyboard and my steering wheel over a touch screen so far.

I also still have a higher resolution monitor than TV (1440p vs 1080p).

Many times over the years I've considered a console, a gaming PC or bootcamp because of interest in particular PC only or console only titles as they were announced but, have managed to find enough alternatives to keep me busy anyway thanks to Feral, Aspyr etc. as well as many older PC titles thanks to WINE.

What puts me off a PC still is managing Windows and having another box, with consoles the loading times and cost of digital versions of games, plus needing a better TV. Also having a steering wheel cable across the room...

Apple keep making it difficult with the lack of machines with upgradable GPUs, poor support for OpenGL then missing features in Metal but recently the number of quality titles has been good.

Will see what the future holds but an upgradable Mac Pro or eGPU support might keep making it possible to be a Mac gamer, would be nice if the big titles keep coming and for those publishers that hate Macs to see the benefit of the extra sales.

The devices listed in my signature, basically.

As for the platforms, by significance:
  • macOS mostly (Mac OS X respectively)
  • iOS
  • Windows (Boot Camp)
  • classic Mac OS
  • watchOS sometimes even (I'm not joking!)

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2016, 4 TBT3) — 3.1 GHz i5-6287U | Iris 550 | 16 GB RAM | 512 GB Flash | Space Gray
iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) — 3.4 GHz i7-3770 | GTX 680MX | 8 GB RAM | 1 TB Fusion Drive
iMac (Flat Panel) — 700 MHz PPC 7450 (G4) | GeForce2 MX | 640 MB RAM | 40 GB HDD
iMac (5 Flavors)— 333 MHz PPC 750 (G3) | ATI Rage Pro | 512 MB RAM | 6 GB HDD | Tangerine
iMac— 233 MHz PPC 750 (G3) | ATI Rage Pro | 128 MB RAM | 4 GB HDD

iPad Pro (10.5-inch) — 256 GB | Space Gray
iPad Air 2 — 64 GB | Space Gray
iPhone 5s — 32 GB | Space Gray
iPad — 16 GB
iPod touch (3rd generation) — 32 GB

iPod touch — 8 GB

Apple Watch (1st generation) — 42 mm | Stainless Steel

Plus some other old Macs and iPods not used for current or legacy games...

Nowadays 100% Windows. Apple's killing of the Mac Pro (the real, extensible and upgradeable one) left me no choice, as well as the poor OpenGL performance (though I hear things are getting thanks to Metal, this only applies to a select few games for now).

90% Windows
3% macOS (it's my travel gaming machine, basically.)
8% iOS. Mainly digital board/card games.

I also have a used PS3 I bought for RDR2 and Ico/Shadow of the Collossus, and as a blu-ray player. I don't use it regularly.

I have somehow wound up here:

Playstation 4
XBox One S
iPad Pro 9.7"
iPhone SE
PC Notebook with a blazing dual core Celeron 2.16 (Turbo Boosts to 2.4!), Intel HD GPU equally as powerful as the CPU - maybe even more and a whopping 4 gigs of low speed RAM but not really thanks to the amazing onboard GPU's lack of it. This bad boy runs the operating system for real men and women who are not afraid of a blinking terminal prompt. That's right, Linux. It's the challenging OS for those who live for the opportunity to engage with it. Linux brings new hope and salvation to systems like this. Naturally, I do most of my gaming in Linux.

90% PC Because of awesome choices and speed.
7% Mac Because I'm too lazy to boot the PC.
3% iPad For time killers for waiting rooms, airports, and motel rooms.

95% macOS.
4.9% iPad
0.1% iPhone.

Ask me a year from now, and I've likely added 10-30% Wii, on the Mac's behalf, as I plan to get it up and running again and I have a few unplayed games laying around. I've ordered myself to play those first before I get a Nintendo Switch.

I can't point a particular moment, but the release of 8 Metal games (more in you count iOS) in less than a year is something Feral must be proud of.

Definitely the F1 2017 announcement and day 1 release. I was already enjoying your F1 2016 port but watching YouTube videos from beta testers about 2017 and all the improvements.

They made me want to play it but I did not expect a MacOS port necessarily to ever arrive, never mind a PC release day launch as well!

Thank you so much and keep up the great work!

Learning that I won't be able to play Mankind Divided on macOS after eagerly awaiting it for a whole year. Priceless!

Just kidding, I don't blame feral. I bet they're doing their very best. However a little more communication would be much appreciated, e.g. if there is any sense even trying to run the game on an Nvidia GPU at all.

Actual favorite moments: F1 2017 being released on day one, and Dirt Rally being released with very friendly system requirements. Even though I likely won't get both of them as I'm not that much of a racing guy, I really appreciated those announcements.
