Found it: http://code.google.c...ps3mediaserver/

I'll try it when I get home tonight.

Haven't used that one, but I have been using Nullriver's MediaLink since it was released and am quite happy with it.

Even though the application is a bit bloated, Vuze has a very good media server that works with the PS3. I've been using it for over a year. If you have a file that isn't supported on the PS3 then Vuze will automatically convert it.

If you are comfortable will dealing with MacPorts then also check out compiling MediaTomb. I've set it up before to work with my PS3, but that took a lot of work.

Anyone tried Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011? Gamespot has it on sale for $39.99 this week. I plan to go there on Friday to "trade-in" some of my old PS2 games, which they will undoubtedly give me pennies on the dollar for in store credit, and was trying to figure out if I should get this or the Resistance Dual Pack.

You'll probably be better off with Resistance than a crummy hunting game (even if this one looks rather nice for its genre).

On another note, I've dabbled a bit with the Uncharted 3 beta. It's not bad but UC multi still isn't grabbing me. *shrug*

MM, I went against your advice. The Dangerous Hunts game is pretty fun, especially the shooting galleries. They are sort of arcade-ish, with power-ups like slo-mo, fully automatic, etc. I don't think the game would be anywhere near as fun without the gun controller. It takes a little getting used to pumping the stock to reload, though you learn pretty fast since the starter guns only hold a couple of bullets.

The PS3 backup utility is fraking useless.

I backed up and reformatted the drive because I've been running low on space and wanted to reclaim that 10GB that I used to use for OtherOS functionality (now gone), and when I try to restore from the backup, it gets to 62% and then slows to a crawl for about 8 hours, then has an error at 100% and fails, rebuilds the database, and my non-copy protected game saves, videos, music, and pictures are there, but everything else is gone.

popsnizzle, I thought. Maybe the backup was bad... good thing I plan for this eventuality by always having a rotating set of two backups. I went back to my backup from February 20th this year. Oh wow, EXACT same problem. And yes, I'm positive nothing is wrong with either the hard drive in the PS3 or the backup hard drive.

So, I guess I have to be content that (most of) my game saves made it, and redownload 4 years worth of data. And even after that, everything I did on Killzone 2 is gone (AGAIN), Mass Effect 2 is completely undone, I've lost about 100 hours of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift ghosts, all my Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light progress is gone, I have to start over from scratch on R6: Vegas 2 and Crash Commando (AGAIN), and several saved messages I wanted to keep are gone. The few paid-for movies from the PS video store are gone forever too unless I want to rebuy them. Serves me right for buying digital copies of anything instead of physical discs.

After much Googling, I've found this happens more often than not, too. I'm glad Sony went to the trouble to include a backup utility for those of us who like to be careful, only to have it not fraking work if you ever actually need it and all your popsnizzle is gone.

frak.

Yup, when I put in my 320Gb drive I had the same thing. Luckily I still had everything on my 80Gb drive, so I was able to go back and delete game data game by game, until I got a backup that worked...

Dyu know what game it was that messed me over? Uncharted 2. As soon as I deleted UC2 data, the backup worked, and I was able to keep all my saves...

Ouch.

I have only played RB6, but I remember you talking about KZ2, ME2 and Motorstorms endlessly long hours of time to get all of your achievements. Anyway, I do know about RB6. I have essentially clocked the game a few times, and taken everything out of it, that I could have without it becoming repetive. All this many hours (50+) would have only acumulated to roughly a Warrant Officer rank. That is a general guess. I have made a few different profiles, and had them reset, but I have played the story to death on every dificulty, and all of the TH until that essentially became boring.

I really have no idea how much you have played of it, as I am sure it is much more than I have. ;)

And UC2 is the game that gave me the YLOD on my original PS3, to boot. As good as that game was, I swear, it is bad juju or something. Since I have to start over from scratch I've decided to just upgrade to a 500GB and eBay the old 320.

Lesson that was learned: Never, EVER wipe the origin drive, ever, for any reason; restore to another one. God dang f-in' piece of...

Yup, UC2's patching system just seems to totally wreck integrity of back ups. God help us all when UC3 comes out!

It's part of why I'm glad I've got PS+. Having the cloud storage of saves, locked or not, just gives that extra dab of reassurance to me.

What've we all been playing recently? I think it's been a while since I've been in here. I finished L.A. Noire's story, and enjoyed it, but felt it lost its way half way through. The Homicide Desk was fantastic, though. I really felt like I was in L.A. Confidential, chasing up leads, being the one competent cop on the force...

After that, I pounced on inFamous 2, and bloody well loved it. It's just taken inFamous 1's formula and polished it, and that's literally all I wanted. Then they went and put a fantastic story arc in there, with one or two really well done moral choices (though the morality system as a whole still isn't any good, sadly), and once again gives you one absolutely cracking finale, which actually diverges this time round. I'm doubtful if they'll do an inFamous 3, they seem to have wrapped things up nicely, and being a small team, Sucker Punch will probably be looking to maybe do a game for Vita, and then gear up for the PS4.
Oh, and the music is just fantastic. Kudos to them for really delivering something that just goes "SUPERHERO GAME", as well as seeming to capture a bit of New Orleans, and with some lovely themes for the characters. Well worth catching some of the tracks on Youtube.

Most recently, though, I'm on Dirt 3 a fair amount. Not really played it much properly, but I meet up with a few guys on a Sunday afternoon, and have a few games. Cat & Mouse is a bundle of laughs. Bit unenthusiastic about delving into the SP much, and I feel like filth every time I load it up for having bought a game that's been chopped in half so that they can flog DLC to you, something that is pushed from every single possible angle in the menus... It's a shame, because I always liked Codemasters, but if they do this to the same extent again I might save my money.

Despite having a couple of other games lying around, I spent most of my time on the PS3 in the last two months blowing sh*t up in Just Cause 2. Old, yes, but wickedly fun.

Well, after 2 and a half years I finally went everywhere and did everything in Fallout 3. 100% trophies, all quests marked and unmarked completed, whole map explored, no stone left unturned, et cetera.

So, I am on to Fallout: New Vegas finally! And holy cow, I'm enjoying it even more than Fallout 3 so far. Only 1 day in and it's kicking ass. Going to put it on hold tonight and resume tomorrow since I got the new 500GB in today, but I'll be chomping at the bit to play some more the whole time I know it.

Also got the new Mortal Kombat. Excellent fun for a few days, but... I'm already getting a little bored with it. :/

I've started my second playthrough of ME2 yesterday. Still having a lot of fun with that. I'm definitely looking forward to ME3 in... March? Besides that not much other than my favorite go-to PSN title, Zen Pinball. I should pick up on M&M: Clash of Heroes again. It's a great puzzle game, but I've just been completely ignoring it for some time now. I've been keeping busy more with PC-gaming as of late via GOG.

Tried the demo of a few newer games. Wizardry is definitely a bit unlike its original, but it ain't bad; Limbo's very moody, and I love Outland's style. I'll probably pick up one or two of these in the near future. I also tried out Catherine's demo. I quite like it, but I think I'll wait a little for the price to drop a bit - shouldn't take long, especially due to its niche status.

There are some other games I'll probably pick up once their prices drop like LA Noire and the upcoming Deus Ex. Paying full price just isn't worth it to me unless it's a game I reeeeeally want, like say... Uncharted 3. I'm still debating whether to buy Enslaved.

Speaking of ME3, I'm actually, sadly, probably gonna get ME3 on the 360, because I want to see how my ME1 choices played out beyond just the handful of major plot points. Playing ME2 on the PS3 I was impressed with the huge upgrades the game got graphically and engine-wise, but it being an RPG, I was also disappointed that the "default" ending to several plotlines was starkly different from what I actually did in ME1. Shepard didn't help Gianna Parsini and she died trying to take down Anoleis on Noveria (I helped her), he executed Shiala on Feros even though she had no control over what was happening to her (I did not), no Conrad Werner hilarity, he never found and dealt with Toombs and the Cereberus facility and thus never got the e-mail foreshadowing Toombs taking revenge in ME3, and about ten other things. It really wrecked the sense of continuity for me I'm sad to say.

That said... if ME1 ends up being largely ignored except for the handful of decisions covered by the interactive prequel comic, then I may change my mind, but it's the 360 version for now.

For some reason I'm absolutely caning F1 2010 again... It's all a bit flawed, but I'm rather enjoying it. I just polished off my second season, and won my first WDC, and I'm on to one of the good teams for season three, where I can up the difficulty, and hopefully still compete near the front.

I actually think i'm going to wait until i upgrade to a new imac to replay the entire trilogy (havent played 2 yet). It's a very valid point you raise, not to mention the playstation is in the family room and doesn't give me the most amazing amount of time to invest into an RPG.

Do it. While the gameplay is slightly clunky, the game looks simply awesome and the characters are among the best written and most memorable I've seen in any game.

In the US, the pilot Episode of Terra Nova is currently free. Don't know about other countries. Only happened to notice that last night while randomly browsing the PSN store. That's usually one of the few times I use their video service. Hell, HD video rentals there cost more than I typically pay to see a flick at the movie theater, not to mention alternative rentals. I guess someone must be using the service though... *shrug*

Anyway, I all but forgot about that show so I didn't know it was coming out this week. The pilot is decent, although some of the "scientific" explanation of how they ended up on Terra Nova seems completely non-sensical. Don't think I'll be able to completely make my mind up until I see some more episodes, so I'll probably watch the show on Monday... if I don't happen to work some weird hours again. =/
