10 years was more of an estimate as to when we could see game streaming start to actually be popular for a significant portion of people who have good access to a steaming datacenter. For example, inside the big cities where everyone is within 50 miles of the city's streaming datacenter. Outside of the big cities I think dedicating gaming PCs/consoles will remain the norm for a very long time.

I don't think it will be anywhere close to the majority in 10 years.

The whole idea of game streaming is definitely going to stick around and probably in 10 years it will be common place.

However, as it stands it just doesn't seem to be a great experience for anyone beyond the most casual gamer who doesn't care or doesn't notice the significant amount of latency/lag that is frequently present (or someone who lives very close to a streaming datacenter and as such has a rock solid connection with very minimal latency). I've tried Stadia, GeForce Now, and Playstation Now and they all suffer from similar lag problems.

In the future with better compression and higher bandwidth things will be better.

I've been dabbling in the beta for GeForce Now for a few years now. It works decent enough most of the time but also has enough lag to make me not really trust it.

I tried it again today after upgrading my account to a "Founders" account in order to try out the RTX graphics. I have pretty much the best possible setup one can have for GeForce Now when I test it at work. My work setup is a 16" Macbook Pro with a wired 1000 mbps up/down business fiber connection. I get 17ms ping to the US Midwest server in GFN. I was playing using "Competitive" settings which is supposed to be the lowest possible latency. I found it very playable with Destiny 2, and very garbage with COD: Modern Warfare. Destiny 2 ran near perfectly, whereas COD had frequent "poor connection" notices and lag/freezes. I thought it was odd that two different games gave such a different network experience.

I think that first person games are probably the worst ones to play on this type of service as they are the most obvious when their is added lag/latency. 3rd person or top-down type games would hid the latency much better and likely be a much better experience.

One thing that I really like is that the fans don't even turn on (to an audible level) on my laptop when playing games via GFN. When playing games locally on the 16" MBP the fans are extremely loud.

I was hooked up to an external monitor for all of the tests, hence the 1080p.

When playing games on the laptop display I believe I would set the resolution to 3072x1920, but then set the render resolution at 0.50 scale (1536x960). Some games like COD:MW support this, which allows for menu's, HUD, text, etc. to all be at native resolution while the actual gameplay itself is rendered at the much more reasonable 1536 resolution.
