Social communities suck these days.

13 February 2017 - 10:33 AM

TL;DR:

I was attacked by a troll.
I didn't respond.
I got banned for being a racist.
Pleaded for help.
Got none.
Community sucks.

The end.

MGS now has 2FA

03 November 2016 - 09:31 AM

Just dropping a line that the 2-Step Authentication system for MGS/WGS was rolled out on October 24th. Seems to be gaining momentum as users discover it on their own and turn it on. We also enabled it for very old returning accounts, to protect them from unwanted passhattery from combo list attackers. So far only 1 person out of a thousand has failed to figure out how to do 2FA. I think thats fairly decent.

So, if you have an account on MGS, I suggest you enable 2FA for the extra protection and peace of mind.

Its not the kind of 2FA that asks for a cell phone number, and charges you a penny everytime it sends a code. Its handled through email. Because if someone has access to your email... there really is nothing we can to do safeguard your security at that point.

But as always, great protection... is using a very long, very unique password for each and every site/service you sign up for.

GOG's response to recent combo-list attacks.

17 October 2016 - 09:28 AM

https://www.gog.com/...y_guidelines#en

A huge combo-list has been rolling around the undergrounds lately, and looks like GOG got hit by it, because they have been sending out notices to accounts that they will be employing this new 2-auth system on the 24th.

A similar list has been slammed against the WinGameStore this weekend, and as well in light of these monster combo-lists, WGS too is going to employ 2-auth systems in response.

Its a typical response when some hacker group decides to throw a million login attempts at your website with a combo list they stole from somewhere else. So no surprised that more stores will be requiring these secondary 'code entry on login' means. It works, and so long as you maintain a valid email address on your account, you have nothing to worry about by its addition.

We won't be adding that to these IPB forums here on IMG though, because this is just one of those run-of-the-mill forum sites. Just don't use the same password here that you use for like paypal.

The most important Take-Away from this is not "omg! the sky is falling they got hacked!" ... its "omg! I should REALLY NOT use the same password everywhere!"

Have a Razer ID? better keep that email forever...

28 September 2016 - 12:22 PM

So, after spending the entire week bantering with Razer support about "How on earth do I change my email address on my Razer ID... especially if I have a provider change?"

And getting this final reply from their upper-ups:

"Yes, we do apologize but the email you created your profile with is the only one that will work with your account.
This cannot be changed and if you do decied to change your email address then you will need to create a whole new account. "

So... apparently everything being linked under a global "Razer ID", where it cloud stores all your hardware configs, your razer software configs, and even keeps your contact lists for things like razer comms......... well, just be sure you never have an email change! Because its ALL GONE by being forced to 'sign up a new account'.

Simply, befuddling.
