Mmm, the hair raising part.

Do the parts show up?
Are they the right parts?
Do they work when first turned on?
Do I have my fire extinguisher charged?

Use a bare bones test bench or straight cage to mount everything and construct a piece of fine furniture around it.

Well, the primary use of the PC will be gaming, but not exclusively gaming. It's my main computer at home, and I like to listen to music; I have a lot of CDs, but also listen to digital formats stored on the computer. Hence, the need for a good DAC.
You mentionned Realtek: this crap is what Apple uses in the Mac Pro. I'm sure the Cirrus Logic DAC in the SB Z is head and shoulders above it, but my high end audio hardware and trained ears ask for even better. :)
Cool. Well, let us know your thoughts on that ASUS card when you do get it.

I can understand needing very clean audio output when using quality headphones. My sony studio phones are that way. Hook them up to something of bad quality, and you 'hear it all'... all the garbles, the tone downs, the pops n hisses (the hisses really drive me nuts). So I understand the need for a higher quality output if you got some seriously high quality headphones stuck to your eardrums :D

Ahh... the days of going to radioshack for anything good... long gone now, but such memories of digging through their hundreds of drawers of random bits n pieces!
