So, we have this irc channel apparently.. right now theres.. 3 people. the chat goes inactive for obscenely long periods of time, unless we get the rare new person coming in and trying to chat. But alas, one person talking doesn't make it a chat. I know there's lots of people who frequent these forums, and i know some/most only have time to pop onto the website, check the new posts, and move on. But there should be more than three people on this entire website that are connected to IRC at the time.

thats all, just a comment.

I feel partly guilt to this. Even though I don't write for IMG anymore, I'm still in charge of the IRC channel... which isn't much to do really... but I haven't exactly promoted it in here or anywhere else.... or spent much time there either lately since it's at so low traffic. I'm willing to change that if people more join in though.

So everybody head to irc.gamesurge.net and the channel #IMG to meet more mac people... but beware of our strick rules.

No Piracy. No porn. No spam. No chat english. We want the same level of sophistication that you're able to show here in the forums, so don't come and say "U sux" without expecting a swift kick.

I haven't ever bothered to use an IRC client, but I used to fire up the old "Inside Mac Games Chat" program... what ever happened to that?

The IMG Chat app died sometime back when the irc server changed host names due to legal reasons I believe. I don't wanna go against the flow either, but #img = you're not missing much.

Colloquy works just fine... GameSurge can be a bit flaky at times though.

Stick to the english you use here and all will be fine. 1337 for other but jest is definitely a no go. And if you can't bother to spell out normal words like you, why, anyone, people and so on, I can bother to kick you for it. It's a menace to read and a rape of a beautiful language.

No need to jump the gun, I just wasn't sure what you ment by that. The sentence just didn't flow in my mind.

Whaleman wasn't deprecating your post, Siriusfox. He was talking about abominations such as "u" for "you", "y" for "why", "ne1" for anyone, and so on.

But what about things like LOL?  I mean, my friends use it in everyday face-to-face conversations, so it's practically English...

Yeah, some words are actually feasible for abbreviations because they save a LOT of typing. I mean compare:

LOL = Laughing out loud
LMAO = Laughing my ass off
cya = see you later
IMHO = in my humble opinion

to stuff where you cut away a single character or two or put in a number to cut a corner. It's just plain ugly, harder to read and annoying. But also note what I said, use the english you use here in the forums, and that do include lol, LMAO, IMHO and similar.

Did you ever watch those goofy Purepwnage.com videos where the main character keeps saying 'lol' in real life  pronouncing it 'lawl'. Cracks me up every time.
