#450123 Epic Boneheaded Move

What a popsnizzleshow, pulling a game before release that already had been available for pre-order for months. And now they have to maintain steam depot for the folks that preordered it? Like k. You want a lower store fee, ok, but wait until your NEXT game not one that had already been available for preorder.

#450120 Rumor: Apple game subscrip service?

idk, game pass is doing well. People are unwilling to spend ANY amount standalone on quality iOS apps. They gotta try something.

Given the proliferation of the F2P/iAP I'm not sure how well this works on iOS. Maybe Apple would use it to drive premium sales. I'd argue that the iOS version of Civ VI is the best version. U can play it on the pooper! Yet I see so many that are unwilling to pay the "full price" for it.

#450116 What is your pick for the best recent FPS on macOSX ?

Second vote for Shadow Warrior, it's insane, crude, and fun af.

Something Something old coots amirite :teehee:

The epic storefront seems to be designed for a video wall not the average computer. How much scrolling will you have to do once there is more than 12 games in the store O_o

Ya gives us the 411. The bad reviews seem to hinge on a misunderstanding that this is in fact a new different game, not Budget Civ V.

No worries, it isn't the first Windows game in the thread. And most people seem to be Bootcamp gamers here too (I sometimes feel like the only one who is not), so I think people will be fine about it.

We should tar and feather the filthy windows users.

#449977 64-Bit compatibility topic

Now that Feral has updated Railroads for 64bit compatibility, does anyone know if the MGS version will get the update?

Xbox letting me download games from 2000 baby, and Crimson Skies is as good as ever.  :teehee:

To be fair to valve (and as much as it pains me Google) there's been so many engineering changes from 10.10 to 10.14 that supporting back that far is problematic. GoG galaxy requires 10.11 or later, though you can download the installers from the website for many games that will run on older OSs.

I agree that it would be nice if there would continue to be a feature limited version of steam running on these old platforms but I suspect the impacted customers is so low that it's not worth the development effort.

You'd be surprised how many games for original retro platforms are still being released. There's apparently a market.

Heck yes there is. I've got my IIgs decked out with solid state mass storage, multi channel sound card, and 8MB of RAM. I need all the hot new releases for 40 year old platforms.

#449913 Steam DB Watch

They fired their competent mac developer a while back because they cost too much so thats kind of on zenimax that they can't implement it right.

Bethesda is using MoltenVK to provide metal support for ESO so it can't be that hard to do.

Spoiler: that was a jab at bethesda.

Good suggestions. I'd forgotten about ME, though I fear that if I get started on RPGs, that'll be the last anyone hears from me for a few years. Maybe I should add Dragon Age: Inquisition while I'm at it?

My son suggested I try to find the remastered version of Tony Hawk 2 (supposedly 360 compatible). It was a sentimental favorite of ours, I helped beta the Mac version and we liked the music.

The 360 version of Inquisition was Grade A terrible but if it's your only option and you can get it cheap. Folks who paid full price for the 360 build at launch really got hosed though. It was designed for next gen systems but I think there was some pressure to complete the trilogy on PS3/360 even if it was a hot mess to get it running.

WINE and CodeWeavers do good work. WoWS plays better than any VP port I've ever played.

PaultheTall also does good work.

People complaining about WINE and WINE ports should look at VP ports. At least WINE works
