Nobody knows. It's been 17 months since the release and there is still no Mac depot on Steam. I bought it for ca $14 when Epic had Mega Sale and you could get an additional coupon.

It's not very helpful when you neither write a quote nor post a link to the tweet. Many people like me don't have twitter but I checked their channel on the web and I still can't find any new tweets about Mac. I only found this from Sep 10: "Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time in Civilization VI for Mac?"

On Sale on both Steam and Epic again. Any new developments on Epic's Mac exclusivity?

Not to harp on the Borderlands thing, but… the general consensus is that Tiny Tina's DLC was the best thing ever, and now they've gone and made a whole new game out out of it.
This looks to be exclusive to Epic (and consoles) until later in 2022, and no mention of a Mac version :(

I'm hoping it will get a mac version just purely based off of the fact that Borderlands 3 got a mac port pretty close to release that was done in-house by Gearbox.

Borderlands 3 is still exclusive to Epic on Mac, so that wouldn't block it. Here's hoping they do an internal port again!

How many AAA games for Mac, are Wine-wrapped, or similar? Is it a huge chunk of them? (Trying to settle a discussion on another forum)

Very few and less by the day.

Aspyr and Feral never used such wrappers. Virtual Programming uses some wrapper technology of their own, and GOG used Wine for a few of their retro ports. A bunch of games which originally used Wine, like The Sims 3 and EVE Online (well, Cider actually), by now have native versions. Many other AAA games with wrapper "ports" no longer work on more recent versions of macOS and are no longer available (e.g. Battlefield 2142, Assassin's Creed 2).

The only currently available notable game running in a Wine wrapper is Final Fantasy XIV.

Square contracts Codeweavers for the macOS port, it is very well done and provides what I would consider to be native level performance. Codeweavers appears to do some additional optimizations because the standalone Mac client runs better than the windows version via Crossover. I took advantage of the expanded free trial a few months ago to test FFXIV on M1. Square doesn't officially support the mac client on M1 yet but in my experience it runs as good or better on M1 than Intel. I would call a commercial codeweavers port wine+.

Codeweavers does quite a few commercial ports (Logmein-rescue and indego2 primus are ported by codeweavers).

To be clear Square originally did the mac port inhouse using straight wine and it was john badman, codeweavers was contracted in 2019 to rebuild the mac client and offer 64-bit compatibility.

Yeah, Codeweavers really did an excellent job here. If I recall correctly, this was also their testbed for a 64-bit version of their version of Wine and for their Metal/moltenVK implementation.

That's actually a long list of praises. It seems that MoltenVK is becoming a much bigger thing than I ever anticipated.

What does this tell you?

For me it's more likely...yeah Ok perhaps...but that is obviously not in focus, so it will never be done.
I don't have the feeling that they kept this so short and non-saying because it's not the right place to announce something HUGE.

So at last, it's all about the pro-workloads. That's it.

Apple keeps flirting and winking at 'gaming' for the last year or so since the M1 released but then when things get exciting they hit us with the "I have a boyfriend Apple Arcade". If Google could convince (pay) for dozens of AAA games to come to stadia essentially day 1 then I'm sure Apple could certainly do the same.

I contacted the biggest seller of MacGames in germany and perhaps in europe (ASH)
if they have any information what the actual status of macgaming in 2021 is.

Here is their answer (shorted):
- we were the guys for the physical copies for Feral, Aspyr, Macsoft etc.
- after the gaming switched to download we are most likely out of that business
- we try to make some small self-productions, but we are not able to do AAA-titles
- we actual have no contact to the big studios (like mentioned above) and therefore no further information
- though we have to give feral credit that they have delivered updates to keep the games running on modern macOS-versions in the past
- we think that they are (most likely the only one left to be) able to do ARM64/metal ports in the future. (my interpretation of the original german sentence)

Greetings
Doc
