#449815 What games are people playing these days!?

Posted Thain Esh Kelch on 14 November 2018 - 02:59 AM

I keep track of all my games in a Numbers sheet, and that has really helped giving me an overview, and not double-buying stuff. And actively lowered the numbers of games I've bought. I have 399 owned games on the list (Missing ~12 Wii games I still need to add), and of those, 252 are still unplayed. I don't think I need to buy more, unless some really nice offers come out. And my 2011 iMac is getting a bit long in the tooth when it comes to modern releases, so no need to buy recent games anyway. And with a second child on the way, I don't even know how I will find the time to do a review of Civilization VI, as I promised MGS after winning their Civ VI competition a few weeks ago... Hopefully this weekend. :D

Edit: The Feral thread discussion actually got me wondering if I should spend some time finding out which games are staying 32 bit, and prioritize playing those, before the GPU in my 2011 iMac dies again and I have to upgrade to a 64 bit only OS... I think I will do that, and add it to my Numbers list (I love making lists! My girlfriend hates me for it... Everything has to go into a list. Lists are awesome!) to the 64 bit compatibility thread.

#449783 Warcraft 3 remaster, sorry 'reforged'

I certainly do like that kind of thing. Warcraft 3 + Expansion pack was freaking amazing.

If you don't have PC Master race epeen problems probably fine. I still game fine on a 2012 MBP so CPUwise it's had a longer streak than 5 years.

Assuming the 6core is in fact the i7-8700 as speculated (we should see real world info very soon) I expect it has chops for 5 years of just about anything.
None of that. I am quite happy with gaming on my 2011 iMac, but the graphic card has already failed once, so I have to plan ahead when it does so for the second time! But it would be nice to buy something that would stay up to date for a while, or at least be upgradeable.

#449762 Feral's upcoming project?

Does Feral have an up to date list of which games are updated to 64 bit, like Aspyr has?

I am hoping for a Steve Jobs hologram.

#449674 GOG now has my most wanted feature ever

MGS is also quite bad in that respect. Would it really be so hard to write "Get everything in the regular edition (Link), but also the following: blahblah".

Agreed! It is SO annoying having to go through the descriptions, and fine the small prints that details what the different editions are!

#449498 Apple CPUs to Replace Intel in Macs?

Now, where is AMD in all of this? Surely they could provide Apple with chips that are almost as good, at a much cheaper price.

A new question for the Feral newsletter!

What is the best thing about belonging to the Mac gaming community?
We smell better!

Yes, I still don't understand why they didn't just put the magic keyboard in the MBP. It has more travel and no reliability issues. Keep the thin keyboard for the thin MacBook.

Edit: this is interesting: https://www.theverge...esistant-ifixit

I wonder if they will replace broken 2016/2017 keyboards with this.
I can let you know in a few months when I have to time to get my '16 MB keyboard fixed for the third time.

The MacGameStore App has a 64bit version ready, we are just adding more features to it to make it a worthwhile release.
You forgot to upgrade your forums to a 64bit version - At least it appears it isn't there anymore!

Thanks I will do so, some time!

...(I've always been SO annoyed that after you select Single Player in Civ4:BTS, it then defaults to the THIRD menu option, which is mods - So if you start the game, and then spam enter to get going, you actually end up relaunching the game with some weird mod started! >_<)

Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword.

No contest there. The replayability of that amazing game is outstanding. A pity it gets more and more bugs for each macOS release, and wont work at all in 10.15. :(

#449325 Blizzard announced bringing World of Warcraft Classic at Blizzcon

Posted Thain Esh Kelch on 16 June 2018 - 09:11 AM

WOW Classic will run on a Frankenstein version of 1.12. So it will be the vanilla experience without any expansions, but with modern server and backend technology.

Quote

Blizzard said it chose patch 1.12 “because it represents the most complete version of the classic experience.”

Quote

So we asked ourselves, would it still be possible to deliver an authentic classic experience if we took our modern code, with all its back-end improvements and changes, and used it to process the Patch 1.12 game data?

While that might seem counterintuitive, this would inherently include classic systems like skill ranks, old quests and terrain, talents, and so on, while later features like Transmog and Achievements would effectively not exist because they were entirely absent from the data. After weeks of R&D, experimentation, and prototyping, we were confident we could deliver the classic WoW content and gameplay without sacrificing the literally millions of hours put in to back-end development over the past 13 years.

I can live with that. Looking forward to re-experiencing WOW! Some more technical stuff in the link above, if you care about stuff like that.

No release date yet, but we will like hear something around BlizzCon in November I assume.
