Got another humdinger for y'all to mull over:

If you could have any desktop game on mobile, what would it be and why?

In before "Skyrim".
I have been screaming for Civilization IV for years... and now we got VI instead, and I have no spare time because of kids. So i am a sad dad.

So this time I will just say Tetris.

I still never understand why someone hasn't bought the rights to all the ambrosia games. not only were they all excellent but they were from the time when Macs weren't powerful and so the games are simple enough to work on mobiles.

top choice has to be Barrack, the QIX copy.

Uh uh, in that case I vote Escape Velocity Nova!

I've always wondered why someone didn't take that concept, build upon it, and made a crazy good game out of it. Coupled with something like the mechanics from TFL, it would be amaaaazing.

I’d love to know why Ambrosia didn’t port their games over themselves, ala Brian Greenstone. After the iPhone came out they seemed to fall off the face of the earth

All I want from them at this point is a macOS (or heck, even Windows—I just want the game preserved) version of Ferazel’s Wand. I wouldn’t want it on iOS; I don’t like platformers with virtual buttons. Apparently Ben Spees has the rights, so there might be a chance: http://www.insidemac...120#entry449566

If there had been Ambrosia releases of their classics sometime between 2012 and 2016 I think they would have been big hits. Now, there's just too much noise. And frankly too many good games (and bad) to get lost in. They would have been the cream rising to the top them.

XCOM 2.
Why: I enjoyed the iOS version of XCOM (1) so much that I played it all the way through even though I'd already finished it on Mac.
(Plus, I own XCOM 2 for Mac already but it requires Metal and therefore I can't play it until I upgrade my desktop.)

Two more old games I'd like to play again, whether on desktop or mobile:

Freedom Force
Summoner

I believe both were turn-based during combat so they'd be well suited to a touch interface. They are probably both too obscure now for anyone to really consider porting them, but I'D buy them. ;-)

Hell yeah, I remember Freedom Force! I played it on my kickass Starmax 4000 clone back in the day. Good times.

I was into a ghost game back then too...but I can't remember the name now. You assembled a squad of ghosts and scared the crap out of sorority girls, etc. I want to say GhostWrangler, but Google is drawing a blank.

That sounds familiar. I vaguely recall reading a review of it. So...

.. Found it! I went to IMG's historical archives, clicked on Reviews, then searched for "ghost". The game was Ghost Master, published by Feral Interactive(!)

Actually Freedom Force is "real time with pause" and Summoner is 100% real time (action RPG).

I don't play mobile games, but Age of Empires II does sound like a game that'd be worth it playing on a mobile device. Controls should be good on a touchscreen (using your finger to quickly build walls and buildings or sending a group of soldiers to attack the enemy) and the Skirmish games are perfect to play while waiting for whatever you're waiting for.

Escape Velocity was already mentioned too. Personally I think Darwinia would be very well suited to mobile.

I have no interest in mobile RTS games, but I would buy an iOS version of Alpha Centauri so fast.

Something a little more abstract this month:

What is your favourite video game setting to play in, and why?

Sci-fi? High fantasy? Sci-high fantasy?! What are the settings that really draw you in?

'Low' fantasy. Swords, mud, straw, pestilence. Or give me something with wide-open natural environments where I can just sit and enjoy the view and listen to the wind.
