Steam Proton has opened the gaming floodgates for Linux users is a hopeful article for those gamers using Linux whom, like us Mac OS/macOS/Mac users throughout the decades whom prefer the experience of Apple's operating system for all things computing, understand the level of anxiety (albeit a word that [relatively] invokes feelings stronger than I imply) in watching a game announcement video only to learn that there are zero plans for a port to the preferred OS. Porting houses Aspyr and Feral Interactive, I believe, have done quite a job in the past and present in porting Windows wares to Linux and macOS and it's good to know that many of the titles they've ported to Linux would still be playable natively for those looking to switch to Linux. On top of that library list of games that were natively ported to Linux are now the lists of games made for Windows but work right out of the box or with little tweaking on Linux using Proton.

Another interesting article, 'Porting Games To Linux Is A Waste Of Time? This Game Developer Says You're Doing It Wrong,' has me think heavily about how developers [don't] interact with the target audience before deciding Linux/macOS porting "isn't worth it."

I would be willing to give linux gaming a serious try if it had support for the common anti-cheat programs that most competitive PC games use. Multiplayer FPS is my favourite genre and almost all of them require some sort of 3rd party anti-cheat software to be installed which looks like Valve hasn't been able to bring to Proton yet (although they said they are working on it).
