I am not sure I have played a game made after 2015, so I will have to pass on this one.. :/

I hear you. I have a far from AAA-capable system. But, hot dang, I was impressed by Unreal back in the day. (When was that, '98? And the original Tomb Raider with a 3dfx card was the shizzle).

Still rocking my 2011 iMac for gaming. And it won't be replaced until it dies, or until my kids are older and Apple has released an xMac. Still have about a hundred games on my to play list which can happily run on the machine, so I can live without Mad Max and whatever is released from now on. I don't need the latest AAA games, as there are other things in life taking my attention by now.

It's that time of the month! With Shadow of the Tomb Raider coming to macOS next year, we were wondering:

What is your favourite Tomb Raider game and why?

Tomb Raider Anniversary, as it is the only one I've played. I quite enjoyed it though, except for the ending which I could'nt beat. There were a series of jumps I couldn't accomplish.

Yup, Anniversary. I played most Tomb Raider games (including many of the spin-offs), and Anniversary was the best of them all. Except for that bloody second-to-last level. Whoever designed that was a sadist…

TR Anniversary FTW!

Why? Because Lara hardly kills anyone. I really dislike how the latest episodes are combat-driven.
The puzzles are also great. Much better than those in more recent games.

TR2 is my favourite because i) it's the only one I've completed, and ii) I was 20 years or so younger when I played it. Good memories of the original too, mostly for the novelty of the game and the ambience, but I got stuck during the Atlantis levels.

Tomb Raider 2013 is my favourite as it was the first TR I'd played since the old school Playstation games when I was a kid so it was like being 10 again! Also good story, awesome location, fun puzzles, etc :D

I have a soft spot for TR2 as I played through both the original Classic Mac version and the OS X port later but oh boy were the early games difficult!

I really enjoyed the latest on Mac - Rise of the Tomb Raider, interesting story to keep you playing and more manageable in small sessions which is all I have time for.

The middle games I enjoyed too but checkpoints being far apart sometimes was frustrating.

I had a blast with Life is Strange:Before the Storm.

This was notable for me because i) it's totally removed from the type of games I usually play, ii) I hadn't played the original Life is Strange at that point, and iii) the attention to detail, voice acting, motion capture and story blew me away. Having played LiS since I appreciate the good job the developers did with BtS with regards to character development (despite it being a prequel).

I'll be getting a new Mac later this year at which point I'll be able to play all the 2018 games on my backlog. Too late to help answer this question, though.

I guess I'll vote for Overload. I don't think it was objectively the best, but it was very good, and it is the only Mac game released in 2018 that I have first-hand experience with.

Cuphead is surely high up the list, though I don't dare play it myself-  I wish to preserve both my controller and drywall.

p.s. I just noticed that the question doesn't actual specify that the game must have come out in 2018. Loophole! The best MacOS game of 2018 was Marathon. :-)

Hmm...Secret of Monkey Island if we're going down that route. But Uninvited was pretty spiffy too.

Got another humdinger for y'all to mull over:

If you could have any desktop game on mobile, what would it be and why?

In before "Skyrim".

Magic The Gathering: Arena. It’s built in Unity, so it’s a possibility. IMO touch devices are the natural home of card games. Gwent and Thronebreaker should be on iOS too...

PopCap's Alchemy, which is no longer available for desktop Macs (RIP). It'd be a perfect mobile game. It's a casual game with compelling gameplay quite unlike anything else out there.
