It still is, even if it's no longer shown in the store. The Mac version has not been removed, it's just hidden. The depots are still there.

That is not logical as Spock would say. It's the weirdest thing if it's true. How do you know that if it's hidden and why would they do so? That was the reason I missed the opportunity to buy it on summer sale.

I only find this information but otherwise there are no system requirements for Mac or no Apple symbol on the Bioshock 2 products:

Special Offer

Buying BioShock 2™ gets you BioShock 2™ Remastered! For that feature list, click here!
BioShock 2™ for Mac is currently only available in the original release

Buying Minerva's Den will also get you Minerva's Den Remastered! For details on that version, click here!
Minerva’s Den for Mac is currently only available in the original release

'BioShock 2 Remastered' is inbound for a Mac release, sooner or later anyway.
There have been Steam Depots for a Mac version for quite some time now.
It should be the 'Save Poor Bob If You Please' blip on Feral's Radar.
You could get the Remaster, when it's out, but who knows if that will include the original game version for the Mac.

What an odd thing to bundle the mac version with the windows version and not to sell it as standalone!
The vanilla version is no longer sold, Windows or Mac; only the remaster is, but there's currently no Mac version. The remaster includes the vanilla version (for Windows for sure, and I guess for Mac too), but since it can't be purchased standalone, you must purchase the remaster and you should be able to get the Mac vanilla app this way. Yes, it's harder than it should be...

It's effectively a loophole due to how Steam works.

With "hidden" I mean that it no longer says on the game's page that there is a Mac version, since Feral no longer supports it and removed the game from sale, mostly to avoid uninformed Mac owners who do not read system requirements (i.e. roughly 90%) buy the game in a post-Catalina world and become enraged that they can't run it.

But the game data are still in the Steam depots and are still accessible. If that were removed or locked, anyone who bought the game earlier would no longer be able to download and play it. Feral does not seem to be willing to take away the game from earlier buyers and I'm not sure if Valve's terms would even allow that.

And apparently, it's not possible to limit access to the Mac depots to only old customers. So when you buy the game now, you still get the Mac version, even if not openly communicated. That's the way it works (or at least worked so far) for all the games Feral removed from sale, and a bunch of other games.

DE:MD is 85% off on Humble Bundle. I wonder if the Steam key would allow downloading the macOS version tho. FWIW I'd assume not based on recent discussion.
Sure it does. The Humble Store page even shows the Mac logo. And Mankind Divided is 64-bit. It's predecessor, Human Revolution, has been pulled for being 32-bit.

I asked Feral on Facebook but they wrote "We’ve got no news about BioShock 2 Remastered for macOS". I looked at the Steam database and there is actually a BS2 Remastered depot for Mac created in january but it's empty so maybe it will come someday.

Thanks! I wasn't familiar with that website and what you meant by depots but I thought they could easily restrict the access to the files for each user and if they don't state that a game is a part of a bundle you couldn't access it. I asked Feral on Facebook if I still can get Bioshock 2 for mac If I buy Bioshock 2 Remastered for Windows although it's not communicated officially but they kind of dodged the question and wrote "If you already own the game, you’ll still be able to play the game. However, this won’t be supported on macOS 10.15."

They kind of confirmed they have plans for Deus Ex though: "Deus Ex: Human Revolution may be updated to 64-bit after the launch of macOS 10.15."

Got an answer from Feral: "No, we can’t confirm that buying BioShock 2 Remastered for Windows will give you access to the macOS version. If you want to try this yourself, however, feel free to purchase the game and refund it if it doesn’t work."

They didn't deny it either. ;)

Maybe they are after all working on BS2 Remastered and want rather people buy that instead of the old one. :)

I just downloaded Bioshock 2 and have just finished playing Rage for the third and probably last time.  If you purchased any of these games from the Mac App Store they are re downloadable from your "History" and playable so long as you do not upgrade to macOS 10.15.  Aspyr has removed these 32bit games from sale as of mid June:

    Bioshock Infinite
    Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
    Call of Duty
    Call of Duty 2
    Call of Duty 4
    Call of Duty Black Ops
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3
    Civilization IV
    Civilization IV: Colonization
    Doom 3
    Duke Nukem Forever
    Fahrenheit
    Geometry Wars 3
    Homeworld Remastered Collection
    Prey
    Quake 4
    RAGE
Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
    Star Wars: Empire at War
    Star Wars: Jedi Academy
    Star Wars: Jedi Outcast
    Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
    Sims 2: Life Stories
    Sims 2: Pet Stories
    Sims 2: Castaway Stories
    Tomb Raider 2
According to Aspyr; "we’ve decided to remove these games from sale by the end of the day today (6/17/19). After today, the entire library of Aspyr titles on Mac will be 64-bit or will receive a 64-bit update before September.

Hi guys! I went ahead and just bought Bioshock 2 Remastered for Windows which is on sale on Steam to see if I get BS2 for Mac. I figured I can use Steam refund if I make a wrong purchase. They offer BS2 for free if you buy BS2 Remastered or vice versa. I can tell that it worked despite Feral not confirming it, but as Jugger Bugger said they didn't deny it either when I asked.

I bought BS2 remastered for Windows, instead of BS2 for Windows because I thought in that case the free version of BS2 will hopefully be for Mac since Steam recognize my system. I thought if I buy BS2 for Windows I will get BS2 remastered for free but that game doesn't exists for Mac so both games would be for Windows. I don't know if it would be true but this way it worked fine.

P.S. I just realized you can't buy BS2 for Windows either on Steam so the only option is to buy the remastered version to get BS2 Mac. :)

daft question and apologies if covered above. my mate has an older laptop which he wont be installing Catalina on, I doubt it would install tbh. I was telling him about tropico which he'd never heard of, im playing tropico 6 on my imac, but his 2013 or 2015 I forget laptop wont run it, but would run tropico 5 or 4.

I looked on steam and both are listed as windows only, im assuming coz they aren't 64bit for mac. if you buy those games and are running an older OS, can you download the mac version, is it just hidden from the sales page,  or is it gone completely?

There are a few things you can check. First look up the game in Steam database. If you search for Tropico 4 and 5 there you get a file list. Click on the game app ID and "Depots". There you can see that Tropico 4-5 exist for Mac OS. In order to be able to play Tropico then it must either be a part of Steamplay or an offer that gives you the game for free if you buy another game, like Bioshock 2 I wrote about.

There is not such an offer for Tropico but Tropico 4 is a part of Steamplay according to this list so if you buy it for Windows you get the mac version too. You don't get both Mac and Windows versions of every game you purchase on Steam. I only see Mac versions of my games, except for Bioshock 1 and 2 remastered for Windows, but those were a part of the deal when I bought them.

Steam _always_ list all avaiable platform versions no matter what and if you buy the game you _always_ get all versions available at once.

If it's not mentioned on the Store Page it's does not exist (on Steam) and you won't get any other versions. It can happen though, that a dev adds a platform or stops supporting one at their discretion.

Also, there are always System Requirements listed at the end of the Store Page for the platforms supported.
