As far as GPU's and these games go. I don't think GoW will matter as much. But, you really need a constant frame rate in UT3, i've found. I cant wait for UT3 to come out. Although i would like to see a Demo with the release :nods:

So, was there ever anymore news on the possibility of a PowerPC version of either or both of these games?
Kestrel (Falcon NW Tiki) – 4.0 GHz i7 8086K / 32GB RAM / 2TB Samsung 960 Pro M.2, 2x480GB Intel 730 (RAID0), 10TB STX BarraCuda Pro / TITAN Xp 12GB
Iridium (MacBook Pro Mid-2012) – 2.7 GHz i7 3820QM / 16GB RAM / 4TB Samsung 860 Pro / GeForce GT 650M 1GB
Antimony (PowerBook G4 2001) – 1.0 GHz PPC 7455 / 1GB RAM / 512GB Micron M600 / Radeon 9000 64MB

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

I got the impression that PPC support (for UT3 specifically) wouldn't even be decided until after release--and then a patch might be considered for PPC. For now I think Intel is the priority, but I wouldn't lose all hope yet!

To be honest I think they may change their minds at any time. They may finally decide that there just aren't enough high end PowerMac G5's with the right GPU to justify the work\expense.

Likely, but considering that we are talking about Ryan Gordon here, it might be possible that he'll make a PPC version as labour of love.

When he could get paid to do something else?

I won't necessarily bet on it, but don't forget he released the last version of AAO without being paid, and I assume he didn't see much money for the UB patches for UT2k4 and Postal 2 either. He did especially the latter one mainly in his spare time, as I got that.

and from what i understand, making a X86 binary into a Power PC binary would be a little harder than doing a UB patch.

Ryan/Epic have said quite clearly that PPC support IS being considered, which means those who know the hurdles have already evaluated them and felt they might doable--and even worth tackling. That's a good sign. They also said they won't decide about PPC until after UT3's release. That's a bad (or at least neutral) sign.

But nothing has changed since those statements, that I can find. It was always a "maybe" and no more--but I see no NEW reason to take away the "maybe." All the factors against a PPC patch were always true, and yet it was still stated to be a possibility. So I'd say it still is a possibility. What has changed?

I think they said "maybe" to avoid a minuscule riot.  How many quad G5s do you think are out there with 7800 GTs?  If someone needed that kind of system two years ago, they've almost undoubtably upgraded by now.

Well words like "maybe" or "perhaps" doesn't automatically mean yes. It means maybe yes maybe no. If you asked someone out and they answered maybe what would you think? ;) I guess maybe it depends on whether you are an optimist or a pessimist. But again there may not be enough PowerPC Macs in use that are interested and can run the game(s).

What's more is, as time passes, the proportion of PPC users shrinks.. and so does the need to support it.

Otherwise, anyone has any idea on a release date for both UT3 and GoW ?

It is, but only after UT3 is out. And who knows how long this will take... (ten days of "This Spring" left.)

I've practically given up on UT3. Taken too long.

I think that we will hear something yet, but i dunno if it will be good news. I expect that its probably already to late for UT3 to really make a impact in mac gaming as everyone seems to have moved on from it. I think that Gears would really be hit though because everyone will be "OMG, Gears of War for mac" because of how famous that game is.
